Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter that marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. Adapt and overcome in a near-future world transformed by disorder.
Set in the near future, roughly two decades after the events of Battlefield 4, Battlefield 2042 imagines a world pushed to the brink by cascading catastrophe. Collapsing economies, rising sea levels, and shattered alliances have destabilized entire nations, including the disintegration of the European Union following Germany's bankruptcy, which sets vast populations of stateless refugees known as No-Pats adrift across the globe. The crisis reaches its breaking point in 2040 when a Kessler syndrome event sends most of the world's orbiting satellites crashing to Earth, triggering a permanent global blackout. With communications, navigation, and infrastructure crippled, long-simmering tensions between the last two remaining superpowers, the United States and Russia, boil over into open war by 2042. Amid this fractured landscape, the displaced No-Pats and rival forces clash across storm-ravaged battlefields around the world, fighting for survival and dominance in a planet reshaped by disaster.
